Read the OBS status before changing settings
Network dropped frames point toward the upload path; encoding overload points toward CPU or GPU pressure. A frozen media source can occur even when the network is healthy.
- Record the error and time.
- Test with one simple scene.
Reduce the correct load
For network loss, lower total bitrate and check competing uploads. For encoding overload, lower resolution, frame rate or scene complexity.
- Use a wired connection when practical.
- Measure all active OBS instances together.
Restore complexity gradually
Once a simple stream is stable, restore sources, filters and additional instances one at a time. Recheck sound and viewer-side output after every step.
- Keep the stable profile available.
- Do not expose stream keys in diagnostic logs.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Start here for common questions about purchasing, access and system requirements.
Why does one OBS instance work while several lag?
The instances share encoder, memory and upload capacity.
Will reinstalling OBS fix dropped frames?
Not necessarily. Identify whether the bottleneck is network, encoding or a source first.
